— An Atwater man was taken to a Modesto-area hospital after being struck by a car Tuesday evening, police Lt. Sam Joseph reported Wednesday.

Officers were called to the scene at 7:43 p.m. in the area of Juniper Avenue and Sixth Street after receiving numerous calls about the accident.

When they arrived, they found a white delivery truck sitting in the westbound lane of Sixth Street and a Latino man lying on the ground.

The victim, identified as Arthur Guerrero, 28, suffered at least five fractures to his right leg and numerous other abrasions, Joseph said.

He was conscious but incoherent, Joseph said. He was taken by medical helicopter to Modesto.

The driver told officers that she didn't see Guerrero until after she struck him. She said that her visibility was poor because of the position of the sun.

Joseph said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
