— Three men were arrested late last week after a search of a car turned up three stolen guns and drugs, Merced police reported Monday.

Police stopped the car over mechanical violations about 7 p.m. Friday in the 600 block of Brittany Way, according to Sgt. Rodney Court.

The driver, identified as Eddie Flores, 22, of Merced, is a validated Sureño gang member, and warrants had been issued for his arrest, Court said.

His passengers — Hector Navarez, 25, and his father, Angel Navarez, 47 — were detained. Hector Navarez is also a validated Sureño gang member, according to Court.

After searching the car, officers found three loaded handguns that had been reported stolen.

There was a loaded .22-caliber, semiautomatic pistol in the center console, a loaded .357-caliber revolver under the front passenger seat and another loaded .22-caliber semiautomatic pistol in a rear-seat cushion.

Police found several bags of methamphetamine in the back seat, Court said.

All three suspects were booked at the Merced County Jail on weapons and narcotics charges, as well as possession of stolen property.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the case to call Sgt. Scott Skinner at (209) 385-4702 or the department's automated tip line at (209) 385-4725. Anonymous tips can be sent via text message to "TIP411" (847411). Tipsters should include the word "Comvip" as the message's keyword.
