I see that Merced County's Area Agency on Aging (AAA) has reserved several of the prime parking spots on its lot at the corner of West 23rd and P streets for county vehicles. I have to assume that those vehicles will be driven by Merced County staff.
The balance of the parking spaces can be used by the customers of the AAA and Living Well Cafe. The cafe furnishes a noon meal for seniors (60 years and older) Monday through Friday each week.
The county's claim on these prime parking spots is particularly grievous because the elderly attending AAA and the cafe need these easy-access spots. I wonder how many commercial establishments in Merced have signs in their parking lots reserving the best spots for their own employees. I hope that the county will consider correcting this inequity. I would hate to think that a government agency would knowingly put its own convenience ahead of the needs of the people they serve.
