DA's office's newest prosecutor is a UC Merced graduate

Office's newest prosecutor a graduate of local campus

June 16, 2013

The newest attorney hired by the Merced County district attorney's office is a member of the first graduating class of UC Merced.

Matt Creeger, 29, was sworn in as a prosecutor last week at the Merced County Courthouse Museum.

"We are beyond proud of Matt," said District Attorney Larry Morse II. "Matt has been like a family member to many of us, including Judges Dave Moranda and Mark Bacciarini while they were members of this office.

"Matt is one of the most fundamentally decent and honorable young men we know, and it is our great pleasure to have him join this office as a prosecutor," Morse said.

A native of Mission Viejo, Creeger came to Merced with the hope of contributing to the new UC campus. He did that as the first elected external vice president of the student government and as a columnist for the university's newspaper.

Creeger began working as an intern at the district attorney's office in 2007 and continued working throughout his tenure at UC Merced.

Following his acceptance to Syracuse Law School in 2008, Creeger came back to Merced each summer to work as an intern at the district attorney's office.
