Merced Mall kicks off summer music series

June 16, 2013

— The Merced Mall's Summer Music Series could introduce listeners to something new, according to its organizer.

"I like bringing things (that) maybe unfamiliar to an audience," mall marketing director William Taylor said.

All of the concerts at the mall, 851 W. Olive Ave., are free of charge. Here's what Taylor has planned for this summer's series:

June 22: Manhattan jazz guitarist John Albano joins with three Fresnans for John Albano & Fresno 3. "It's primarily jazz with a little Latin slant on it," Taylor said.

July 6: The Central Valley Jazz All-Stars, known for jazz standards, haves played the concert series many times. The group is to return Aug. 3 for a second concert.

July 20: Traditional Cuban music is as the heart of Carlos Caro's VL Trio. "(They're) a nice feather in our bonnet," Taylor said.

Aug. 17: The final show by Modesto-based Red Dog Ash will bring a bluegrass quintet to the mall. Taylor said that, for the most part, the band members did not start out playing bluegrass but "they're deadly serious about it."
