— Investigators have identified a 30-year-old man who died following a disturbance at a bar in Stevinson a week ago.

They have found that his death might not have been a homicide, according to Deputy Delray Shelton, Merced County Sheriff's Department spokesman.

The victim was identified as Melchor Mino Holguin III of Atwater, Shelton said. Holguin was found dead inside a car on Edminister Road, up the street from the bar.

The incident initially appeared to be a homicide, but an autopsy Monday concluded the cause of death was blunt force trauma from a car accident.

On June 4, deputies responded to reports of a disturbance at the Stevinson Bar and Grill, 20104 Third St., about 12:20 a.m. Shelton said they were told by bar patrons that an altercation had occurred before they arrived.

According to witnesses, security personnel at the bar broke up the disturbance and moved the parties involved outside but didn't report the incident to authorities.

Shelton said bar patrons and staff became concerned because some of those involved in the altercation were lingering in the area. He said the witnesses feared the group might try to start more trouble, so they contacted law enforcement.

Investigators have spoken to all involved parties, Shelton said, but no arrests have been made. The case will be forwarded to the district attorney's office to determine if any further action will be taken.
