DOS PALOS — A 16-year-old boy accused of killing a rival gang member was arrested Tuesday.
Authorities found Ryan Suarez inside an apartment in Mendota in Fresno County, said deputy Delray Shelton, the Merced County Sheriff's spokesman. It's unclear if he was staying alone or with others.
Suarez is accused of shooting John Carlos Cordero-Juarez, 15, on Sunday after a fight broke out around 2:45 p.m. at a park on Reynolds Avenue in South Dos Palos.
The motive for the shooting was a gang rivalry, Merced County Sheriff Mark Pazin said Monday.
"This stupid rival gang violence got the best of them," Pazin said. "One likes a different color, embraces a different number, and this is where we're at."
Suarez is being held at juvenile hall, Shelton said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Merced County Sheriff's Department at (209) 385-7444.
