Celebration fetes Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society is planning to host the 80th Our Lady of Mount Carmel Celebration. The event will take place July 14 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1516, Center Ave.

The Mount Carmel Celebration will feature Italian hymns. A traditional luncheon menu of stew, beans, salad and roll will follow at the DES Hall, along with a raffle and an auction.

Preceding Sunday's activities will be a rosary and Mass on July 11, 12 and 13.

The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is observed on July 16, which this year falls on a Tuesday, so it is commemorated on the closest weekend. The feast day observes the date in 1251 when, according to Carmelite traditions, the scapular was given by the Blessed Virgin to St. Simon Stock.
