Jennifer Tolbert: Rainbow symbolism

July 5, 2013

Is anyone else offended by the use of the rainbow flag to promote the LGBT lifestyle? The rainbow is historically a sign from God to Noah that there would never again be a worldwide flood.

What does that have to do with the gay pride movement? I can understand the symbolism of the blue flag with the yellow "equal" sign — obviously it stands for equality.

Also, it is irksome to me that homosexuals want the definition of marriage to be changed to include their unions. Marriage is defined traditionally and biblically as one man and one woman.

No Supreme Court ruling is going to change my opinion on that.

I'm fine with equal benefits for same-sex couples, just stop trying to rip off the original by calling it what it is not.

And for crying-out-loud, stop using the rainbow as your symbol; it is extremely inflammatory.

(As is, unfortunately, my opinion on this subject.)
