A Gustine man is in custody after a Los Banos man reported being assaulted and having his car stolen on Monday, police said.

Police responded to the 800 block of F Street at 10:55 a.m. for a report of a car theft. Officers spoke with a man who said he was approached outside of his residence by three Hispanic males. One of the males assaulted him and drove away in the victim's green Ford Mustang, police said.

On Tuesday, detectives located the vehicle at an apartment complex in the 300 block of Merideth Avenue in Gustine.

Police arrested Andrew Garribaldi on suspicion of possession of stolen property, violation of parole conditions and violation of conditions of probation. He is being held without bail at the Los Banos Jail.

Police said they recovered the keys to the vehicle after Garribaldi tried to discard them before the arrest.
