A 29-year-old Hilmar man was killed early Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Golf Link Road, north of Johnson Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The victim's name hasn't been released pending notification of his family. There were no passengers in the car.

The crash was reported about 1:40 a.m.

The CHP said the driver was in a 1997 Ford Ranger headed southbound on Golf Link Road. For unknown reasons, the vehicle to drifted to the left across the northbound lane of Golf Link Road, according to officer Jason Schoonhoven.

The vehicle went onto the dirt shoulder, east of the roadway, and continued into a cornfield. Schoonhoven said the pickup overturned in the field, coming to a rest on its roof.

The victim wasn't wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle, according to the CHP. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
