Robber gets $100 in Atwater holdup

July 9, 2013

— A store clerk was robbed at gunpoint Monday, Atwater police reported.

Officers said a man entered Singh's Market in the 1400 block of Shaffer Road about 9:30 a.m., pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded money.

When the clerk didn't immediately hand over cash, the robber ran around the counter and took $100 from the register.

Police said the man tried using a zip-tie to bind the clerk's hands behind his back, but the tie broke. The man then left the store and was last seen running westbound on Elm Avenue.

The robber was described as a black man, in his mid-20s, about 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He was dressed in a black T-shirt and jeans, wearing a bandana across his face.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Atwater Police Department detective bureau at (209) 357-6394. Tips are kept confidential and individuals can remain anonymous.
