Merced's 16th Street access to Highway 99 restored

July 13, 2013

Access to Highway 99 from 16th Street is again open, the California Department of Transportation reported.

Closed since August 2012 because of the West Merced Overhead Project, the on- and offramps on 16th Street are open to traffic.

The $34.6 million project will replace Highway 99 structures from just north of V Street to the Black Rascal Bridge.

The project will seismically retrofit two Bear Creek bridges, provide clearances required by the railroad and add retaining walls, among other upgrades.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project began in November 2009 and is set for completion in August.
