Crash kills Winton motorcyclist

July 15, 2013

A 42-year-old motorcyclist from Winton was killed in a crash involving three vehicles Sunday afternoon near Atwater, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The victim's name hasn't been released pending notification of his next of kin.

The crash was reported about 3 p.m. at Shaffer Road and Walnut Avenue, CHP spokesman Jason Schoonhoven said.

According to the CHP, Ajaypaul Saini, 27, of Livingston was driving a white 1999 Toyota 4Runner north on Shaffer, approaching Walnut.

The motorcyclist was riding a yellow 2001 Honda CBR motorcycle south on Shaffer, approaching Walnut. Pardeep Takhar, 31, of Winton was stopped in a black 2013 Land Rover Range Rover eastbound on Walnut at Shaffer.

As Saini's Toyota and the motorcycle neared the intersection, Saini turned left to head west on Walnut, directly into the path of the motorcycle, Schoonhoven said.

The front of the motorcycle hit the right side of the Toyota. The impact caused the left side of the Toyota to hit the left front of the Land Rover. The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The three vehicles came to rest in the intersection. The drivers of the Toyota and the Land Rover were unhurt, Schoonhoven said.
