Body in canal might be missing bicyclist

July 20, 2013

California Highway Patrol officers are investigating an apparent fatal bicycle accident after the body of a 25-year-old man from Los Banos was pulled from a canal earlier this week.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers received a call Wednesday reporting a body in a canal at Badger Flat and Ingomar Grade roads.

Authorities lowered the water level in the canal to remove the body and search for evidence. They found a bicycle upstream from the body.

The victim, whose name has not been released, had been reported missing by his family.

The CHP said the incident is being investigated as a bicycle accident based on evidence found at the scene and autopsy findings. Authorities said in a news release that they do not suspect foul play.
