A 28-year-old convicted felon was arrested Friday on suspicion of carrying a gun, according to Livingston police.

At 5:05 a.m., Livingston police officers received a call about a man with a gun in the 1200 block of Eighth Street. Police said the man was Roy Granados, a validated gang member who has a felony conviction on his record.

Witnesses reported seeing Granados walking down the street and looking into parked cars. When one witness asked Granados if he needed help, police said, the felon reached into his waistband.

Officers said the witness then got into a scuffle with Granados, pulling a Ruger 9 mm pistol from Granados' waistband. Granados ran away and hid in a nearby back yard, where officers found him.

Police said Granados was intoxicated and had minor injuries from the scuffle. He was treated before being booked.

The pistol's serial number had been removed. Police said they will try to determine if it is stolen.

Granados is being held at the Merced Main Jail in lieu of $105,500 bail on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with removed serial numbers, and being drunk in public.
