Pair attempts to rob man, 59

July 21, 2013

A 59-year-old man reported being attacked during an attempted robbery early Friday in the 100 block of West 15th Street, according to Merced police.

The victim told police he was walking in the area about 1:30 a.m. when two people approached him. One of the people hit him on the side of his head, according to Lt. Bimley West.

The blow caused the victim to fall to the ground. One of the assailants tried to remove his wallet from his pants pocket but was unsuccessful, West said. The victim managed to get up and run away.

Paramedics provided medical assistance to the victim, whose injury didn't appear to be life threatening, West said.

Police searched the area, but were unable to find the attackers.

Few details are available about the pair, only that one was a black man and the other was a black woman.
