Now that the Zimmerman trial is over, all the talking heads are engaged and invested in their various agendas.
Considering the amount of hyperbole, the two most critical questions remain unasked.
The first is rhetorical: "Would George Zimmerman have followed Trayvon Martin if he had been unarmed?"
The second question begs the first, and that is what was Zimmerman doing with a carry permit?
I fully support the Second Amendment and want my AR-15 for home defense, yet I don't need it for my neighborhood watch.
I am unaware of any reason Zimmerman needed a carry permit other than his volunteer watch duties.
To allow such a person to carry a weapon without proper skills and training, while acting in a quasi law enforcement capacity, makes this tragedy not only predictable but also inevitable.
I remember the words of my father, a Naval veteran of Okinawa and Guadalcanal, "guns can make a man brave, but also stupid."
There is no doubt in my mind that had Zimmerman not had a gun in his possession, he and Trayvon Martin would never have met on that tragic night.
