July 30, 2013

— Atwater police arrested a 25-year-old Atwater man whom authorities said was driving a stolen car.

Officer David Walker attempted a traffic stop about 12:30 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of East Broadway and Buhach Road, police said.

The driver of the black 1997 Honda Accord failed to stop, officers said, and crashed into a chain-link fence along Buhach Road. Police said the driver then fled on foot.

Police set up a perimeter and arrested Santiago Perez of Atwater.

The car driven by Perez was reported stolen by California Highway Patrol, according to police.

Perez is being held without bail on suspicion of violating the terms of his parole, being in possession of a stolen vehicle and being in possession of stolen property.
