Atwater grad marks 100 Air Force combat sorties

Miranda I. Michael of Merced, a captain in the U.S. Air Force, completed her 100th Operation Enduring Freedom combat sortie June 22. She is a weapon systems officer in B-1B Lancer and has deployed in support of OEF three times. Over her three deployments, Michael has accumulated more than 1,200 combat hours in the B-1B. As a B-1B weapons officer, Michael provides close air support for U.S. and coalition troops in Afghanistan.

Michael is a 2001 graduate of Atwater High School. She received her bachelor's degree in 2005 from the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., and master's degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey in 2006. Her parents are Richard Brasko of Hudson, Fla., and Ofelia Aquino of Merced. She is married to Curtis Michael of Albion, Neb., and they reside in Rapid City, S.D..
