Detective's car crashes into Atwater home

August 19, 2013

An Atwater police detective was unhurt after an off-duty crash reported earlier this month, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 2:10 a.m. Aug. 1. Lisa Howard, 32, was driving a blue Chevy Camaro southbound on Augusta Lane in Atwater, south of Summerfield Drive, according to CHP officer Jason Schoonhoven.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the road and hit a house in the 1700 block of Augusta Lane. The Camaro also struck a 1998 blue Honda Accord parked at the residence, and the impact pushed the Accord into a red Ford Focus. There were people in the home at the time of the crash, but no injuries were reported.

The CHP responded to the scene to assist Atwater police in the investigation.

Schoonhoven said the damage to the home was minor. He said the crash remains under investigation, but there is no evidence that drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
