More than 30 organizations, led by the Northern California World Trade Center, have launched an initiative that aims to increase the region's exports.
Officials with the center - a trade-promoting group affiliated with the Sacramento Metro Chamber - said the "Metropolitan Export Initiative" is customized to the region's economic strengths and assets.
The initiative hopes to identify untapped export opportunities and tailor support to help regional businesses access those markets.
The export planning process will use a model and analytic tools created by the Brookings Institution, the Washington, D.C.-based think tank.
"Once completed, the export plan will provide the World Trade Center and the region with a road map for outlining the most effective path to connect our businesses to global markets. A tool like this could really move the needle on increasing our export economy," said Renee Taylor, president and CEO of the Northern California World Trade Center.
