Kyle Hamilton: Printing costs are a small price for democracy

August 22, 2013

After reading the Aug. 15 letter "One language for voting" about printing voting materials exclusively in English as a way to save Merced County money, I was left disturbed.

Voting is an important part to our democracy and the ability for all of us to participate is something that I believe is valuable to our nation and this community.

Taxpayers pay to ensure all can participate; men and women have died to ensure this right is given to all of us equally and fairly.

So at the end of the day, is a minor printing cost worth ensuring the highest possible amount of citizen participation? I believe it is.
