Philip A. Fredrickson: Thankful for caring people

August 23, 2013

I have learned that God cares, plus others who live among us also care. On Aug. 2, I was stricken with a major heart attack. My wife called 911. Emergency units arrived at our home within minutes. Riggs Ambulance immediately transported me to Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.

I thank the paramedic for his professional care and concern of my life. The emergency staff at Emanuel awaited our arrival. The surgeon began surgery. During the procedure my heart stopped and CPR was applied. I am grateful for the prompt, caring and successful service. During my stay at the hospital, I thanked the heart surgeon for saving my life. He pointed upward and said, "Thank God."

I've been a resident of Merced since 1942 and am a World War II veteran who recalls GI Joe medics of those war years helping to save the wounded, too. Thank God for others who care!
