— Atwater police said they are looking for a man suspected of crashing a stolen car he was driving into one used by his girlfriend, which police said was also stolen, according to Cpl. William Novetzke.

Officers were dispatched to a possible hit-and-run accident in the 1400 block of Winton Way on Tuesday afternoon. Once there, they said, they were told that Fernando Escobar, 28, had rammed a car twice into the one his girlfriend had. Escobar was not there.

Novetzke said Escobar was driving a white Chevy Malibu, stolen from Atwater, and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Michelle Sparks, was driving a vehicle stolen from Hilmar.

The collision had caused "significant fresh damages to the left rear area and a broken left rear window," according to the police report.

Sparks was arrested and booked on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle, Novetzke said. Her passenger, Jesus Rodriguez, 60, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and later released.

Police are still looking for Escobar and asking anyone with information to call (209) 357-6396.
