Car hits Atwater Starbucks, driver flees

— The Starbucks on Bell Lane closed its lobby for most of the morning Friday after a car crashed through its front window, according to Atwater police.

Police said the hit-and-run crash happened around 3:25 a.m., but the driver fled the scene before the police arrived.

There were no witnesses, according to Cpl. William Novetzke.

"Officers were notified that there was damage to the building and responded," Novetzke said of the 1640 Bell Lane Starbucks location. "The collision is still under investigation."

The window near the entrance was shattered, and there was some damage to the building itself, Novetzke said. The window was secured with a board Friday night.

Starbucks supervisor Jen De La Cruz said she wasn't there during the incident, but it caused the lobby closure to last for most of the morning.

"It's all boarded up," De La Cruz said. But, she added, "we're still open for business."
