'Les Miserables' on stage

Merced ShakespeareFest will present Shakespeare's comedy "As You Like It," on Sept. 14-15 and 21-22 at Applegate Park, 26th andN streets, in Merced. Symphony has three shows
The Merced Symphony has three shows that are scheduled through January. The next performance is set for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21. The performance will be a "pops" concert: "Ellington and Gershwin on Broadway!" with vocals from Soprano Jenni Samuelson. A fall concert performance is scheduled for Nov. 2. The scheduled performance will be an "Evening with Grieg and Tchaikovsky" with world-renowned Tara Kamangar, piano soloist. The symphony's winter concert, "Villains and Heroes," is scheduled for Jan. 24.
Salsa Night tonight at club
Salsa Night is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. tonight at the Chandeliers Club, 427 W. Main St. in downtown Merced. According to the event's Facebook page, the cover charge is $5 after 10 p.m.
Chris King will provide a display of "experimental noise" at 8 p.m. Sept. 7 at Coffee Bandits, 309 W. Main St. in downtown Merced.
Alison Rush set to perform
Singer-songwriter Alison Rush is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Sept. 11 at Coffee Bandits as part of the Nyx and Night showcase. The second Wednesday of every month, Nyx Records will showcase a different artist. Coffee Bandits is at 309 W. Main St. in downtown Merced.
Music festival and barbecue
The John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation will hold the seventh annual Blazin' Hog Bar-B-Que Competition and Zydeco Music Festival from noon to 8 p.m. on Sept. 21 at the Mariposa Fairgrounds. Individuals, groups and clubs are welcome to compete. First-place prize is $500; second, $250; third, $100. There will be a $100 People's Choice award. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Dust off your zoot suit and fedora this year marks the 20th anniversary of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, the band that helped jump-start the swing revival. This nine-piece, high-energy, big-band-style ensemble will have you swinging in the aisles. The performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Merced Theatre. Tickets are $15-$35.
