Madera man convicted on 6 counts of child molestation

September 8, 2013

— A Madera man was convicted this week on six counts of felony child molestation and faces up to 48 years in prison.

On Tuesday, a jury found Roy Ornelas, 47, of Madera guilty of forcible child molestation that continued for more than 10 years and began when the child was 8, Madera County District Attorney Michael Keitz said.

The molestation continued until the victim told a family friend about Ornelas' actions, Keitz said.

Ornelas will be sentenced Oct. 1 in Madera County Superior Court.

"These cases are always difficult and require tremendous courage from the victim to deliver the evidence necessary to obtain a conviction," Keitz said.
