Bobcat men's soccer wins first-ever game

UC Merced volleyball coach Allen McCreary spread the love around, working most of his roster into Saturday's victory over Mills College.

Ten Golden Bobcats recorded kills, led by Kuuipolani Braceros' eight, and UC Merced (5-3) cruised to a 25-14, 25-12, 25-8 victory at Hostetler Court.

Genna Garrett had 26 assists and McKenzie Willett added six kills.

Cross Country

FRESNO — UC Merced's Sophia Rios placed 31st at the Fresno State Invitational with a time of 20:30.50 on Saturday.

Daniel Pena paced the Golden Bobcat men, finishing 34th in 21:23.80.

Men's Soccer

ANGWIN — UC Merced improved upon its finishing woes from its season debut, scoring early and often to secure the program's first ever victory, a 5-0 shutout of host Pacific Union.

Prep Water Polo

ATWATER — Atwater High went 5-0 in the Central California Championship Tournament, including a 13-9 win over Merced in the championship game.

The Falcons also beat Ripon 14-7 on Saturday after picking up wins over Johansen (15-3), Rocklin (15-4) and Turlock (16-5) on Friday.

Goalkeeper Corbett McDaniel finised with 40 blocks, 15 assists and 10 steals in the tournament. McDaniel blocked 13 shots against Merced.

Josh Heller scored 36 goals in the five games and Ben Peterson found the net 15 times.
