LOCAL DIGEST: BC soccer beats Merced

— The Buhach Colony boys soccer team showed its Central California Conference-opening victory over defending champion Turlock was no fluke.

The Thunder (11-1, 2-0 CCC) got goals from Hector Maldonado and Samir Rodriguez, and goalkeeper Miguel Guerrero made six saves to earn the shutout in a 2-0 victory over Merced on Wednesday afternoon.

Asaad Sohail made four saves in the loss for the Bears (11-3, 0-2 CCC).

Turlock 3, Atwater 1

TURLOCK — Merced isn't the only soccer team shocked to find itself 0-2 in the CCC.

Jonathan Trillo connected with Brandon Alvarez for Atwater's only goal in a road loss to Turlock (1-1 CCC). Atwater is 6-6-1 overall, 0-2 CCC.

Water Polo

Golden Valley 12, Pitman 6

Chris Moranda had a monster night with five goals and two assists and Nick Gargov chipped in four goals as the Cougars (2-0 CCC) doubled up the Pride at home.

Patrick Koenig did a little of everything in the win, adding a goal, six assists and seven steals.

Cross Country

Livingston 15, Central Valley 47

LIVINGSTON — Dilpreet Singh (18:26) and Ismael Bucio (19:11) paced a dominating performance by the Wolves as they recorded the top five finishers in a dual meet with Central Valley.



Le Grand 3, Turlock Christian 0

LE GRAND — Savanna Barnett turned in a team-high 12 kills and four blocks while Kinsie Haas chipped in 28 digs and three aces to help the Bulldogs sweep Turlock Christian 25-21, 25-19, 25-20.

Tyler Farnsworth had 19 assists for Le Grand (4-1, 1-0 SL)

Water Polo

Golden Valley 5, Pitman 3

Dani Diele scored two goals and added an assist and Audrey DeBard made nine big saves as the Cougars outlasted the Pride in a close CCC battle.

Mikayla Arceo added a goal and four big steals for Golden Valley (7-4, 2-0 CCC).

Cross Country

Livingston 25, Central Valley 33

LIVINGSTON — Livingston's Mireya Muniz (23:14) just got outpushed by CV's Evelyn Andrade (23:12) down the final stretch, but the Wolves placed five of the top eight runners to secure a Western Athletic Conference win.WORDHERE
