FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Hilmar 4-0, ready for league

— HILMAR — A perfect preseason is complete. Now, the real test stars.

The Hilmar High football team rolled to a 4-0 start with a easy 47-18 victory over Fresno on Friday night.

The host Yellowjackets raced out to a 33-0 halftime lead in advance of its Trans-Valley League opener next Friday at Modesto Christian (3-1).

Johnathan O'Brien completed 8 of 11 passes for 76 yards and rushed for two touchdowns and Bailey Gomes rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown for the Yellowjackets, who have outscored their opponents 150-39.

Joseph Bello scored on a 1-yard TD run and also had an interception and fumble recovery.

Golden Valley 19, Grace Davis 13

MODESTO — Steven Alvarez threw a pair of touchdowns and ran for another as the Cougars (1-2) won for the first time this season.

Alvarez scored on a 1-yard sneak and hooked up with Jashaan Wright for a 15-yard touchdown to give Golden Valley a 13-0 lead at the half.

"It was nice to get the monkey off our back and get the win for these kids," Cougars head coach Dennis Stubbs said.

Buhach Colony 30, Whitney 24

ROCKLIN — Quarterback Darin Dupont threw two touchdowns in the final five minutes to lead the Thunder (2-2) back from a 24-15 deficit.

Dupont found Aundre Sherman for a 49-yard touchdown to pull BC within 24-22 late in the game.

After failing to secure an onside kick, the Thunder defense held, forcing Whitney (1-3) to punt. Quintin Levesque then took a short pass and raced 60 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with 1:30 left in the game.
