The writer of Obama and his allies are to blame (Oct. 9, Letters) sympathizes with those who would hold us all for ransom. His letter also clearly indicates that he doesnt understand the separation-of-powers doctrine enumerated in the U.S. Constitution inasmuch as he states it was the president and not Congress, in the form of the Republican-dominated House, who closed down the government, including the World War II monument. The president was just following the law; it would be refreshing if the House of Representatives did likewise.
The letter writers assertion that defaulting on the national debt would not be so bad is akin to playing Russian roulette with five bullets in the cylinder and only one empty. It might work out, but the odds and the downside are not favorable.
