Like many of you, I read the story (Candidate subject of abuse report) that was printed in Saturdays paper. I am disappointed that it was the result of the anonymous leaking of a confidential investigation.
It is important to know that the misunderstanding began with a nurse, who under mandatory reporting guidelines had to make a tough decision one with unpredictable consequences.
For the record, I support mandatory reporting; Id rather have gone through this experience than see one real abuser go unpunished or one victim unprotected. Thats why A Womans Place of Merced County honored me for my continued dedication and commitment to assist women and children of domestic violence.
As a law enforcement officer, Im ready to take whatever comes my way. We expect the same of our public servants. While Im tough enough to handle a public disparagement, Im afraid that this insinuation is harmful to my family and my three young children. I ask you to join me in closing the book on this discussion.
Merced is faced with some significant issues over next couple of years. Thats what Im focused on, and I believe thats the discussion the public deserves.
