Buhach Colony's Heather Parker wins CCC golf championship

October 15, 2013

— Heather Parker's round could have gotten away from her after recording a triple bogey on the second hole.

The Buhach Colony senior wasn't going to let it happen. Not in her final Central California Conference tournament.

Parker rebounded, finishing with a round of 86 to win the CCC tournament at Stevinson Ranch Golf Course on Tuesday.

"I knew if I got frustrated my day would go downhill," Parker said. "I fought back and stayed positive."

Parker finished two strokes ahead of Merced's Netanya Hernandez and Turlock's Taylor Beckwith to win the title.

Parker put the finishing touch on her round by sinking a birdie putt from 15 feet away on the fringe at hole No. 18.

"My last hole could have been really bad or really good," she said. "I probably shouldn't have been using my putter there but it worked out in my favor."

Turlock wrapped up the CCC team title with a score of 474. Merced (480) and Pitman (509) also earned spots in next week's Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 South Championship at the Turlock Country Club.

Marissa Castillo (93) and Elizabeth Azevedo (97) also shot good rounds for the Bears.

Parker owed a lot of her success to her tee shots.

"My driver was putting me in some good places," she said. "My second shots were really good. My putter is what I was struggling with today."

Pitman 3, Atwater 0

TURLOCK — Hannah Van Warmerdam's 18 kills and seven aces weren't enough as the Falcons (4-5 CCC) fell to the Pride, 25-18, 25-19, 25-16.

Golden Valley 3, Buhach Colony 1

ATWATER — Belen Castillo recorded 24 kills as the Cougars topped the Thunder 25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 25-16.

Carley Stone had 13 kills for Buhach Colony.
