Daughters of the American Revolution meeting

The Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the main branch of Merced County Library, in the Gracey Room. New members are welcomed. To qualify, you must prove lineal descent from a patriot of the Revolutionary War. Email katheo2@aol.comor call (209) 777-2869.

Dinner and Raffle

La Grange Odd Fellows’ Spaghetti Dinner and Raffle will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, at the Odd Fellows Hall in La Grange, sponsored by the LaFayette Lodge No. 65. Dinner will consist of spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, and soft drinks with ice cream sundaes for dessert. It’s all you can eat, or take-out dinner. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under. Raffle tickets are a $1 donation or 6 for $5. All proceeds go to the IOOF Hall maintenance and restoration. Call (209) 853-2128.

Rummage Sale

Dyanna will hold a huge rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Johnny’s Cleaners parking lot (corner of Blossom and Golden Gate) in Dos Palos. Furniture, baby items, clothes, electronics, and more will be sold. All the proceeds will go to Merced County Food Bank, toward adopting local seniors for the “Brown Bag” program.

‘Mariza’ at the Gallo Center

Gallo Center will host Mariza at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6, at the Gallo Center for the Arts, 1000 I St. in downtown Modesto. Tickets range from $20 to $55, and may be purchased at www.galloarts.org, by calling (209) 338-2100 or at the Gallo Center.

Cancer Prevention Study

In order to better understand ways to prevent cancer, the American Cancer Society is recruiting men and women across the United States for a cancer-research study. Individuals may choose to participate if they are willing to make a long-term commitment to the study, are between the ages of 30 and 65 and have never been diagnosed with cancer. There are four enrollment opportunities in Merced County: 3:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at Castle Family Health Center in Atwater; 6:30 to 10 a.m. Nov. 14, at Mercy Medical Pavilion in Merced; 8 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 15, at Golden Valley Health Center in Merced; and 8 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 16, at Mercy UC Davis Cancer Center in Merced. Donate to the Merced Arts Council

Give a buck for the local arts. Donate $1 or more, to benefit the Merced Arts Council’s programs, at J & R Tacos, Coffee Bandits, 17th Street Public House, The Partisan, A Blooming Affair, Five Ten Bistro, Merced Antique Mall, Toni’s Courtyard Café. (Ask the cashier.) All proceeds go to the Merced County Arts Council.
