I had the amazing privilege to be back in Austria this past week for Pioneers Festival 2013.
This is the biggest start-up conference in the world held annually in Vienna. I was there with a company I work for, Runtastic, one of the most successful start-ups in Austria, along with so many other motivated, creative and talented minds. It was such an awesome experience.
I sat in on a few conferences, listened to a few interviews and was really affected by a lot of what these people had to say. I remember overhearing an interview where the subject said, Never be afraid to tell people about your goals, dreams and ideas.
That statement was so powerful to me. How can you ever reach your goal and your dreams of success if you do not tell anyone about it? Now, this doesnt mean going and telling everyone about your idea, but taking the time to think about what you want, how you want to achieve it and telling someone who could provide a mutual benefit.
By mutual benefit, I mean talk to people who you feel can give you level-headed advice, keep you motivated and help you stay on track.
I see a lot of people posting on social media about how they are going to start being healthy and really focus on fitness and health. Then a week later they post a picture of a giant cheeseburger, fries and an ice cream sundae with a cherry on top.
Nobody is perfect, and I am most certainly nobody to judge, but this really had me thinking a lot about that phrase that I heard at Pioneers Festival. If you have a goal in this case, fitness its great to tell someone about it and have that person be a source of motivation, even hold you accountable. But, if you are going to say something, especially on social media for all of your friends to see, shouldnt it mean something?
Even outside of social media, how many people have you heard say they are starting tomorrow or starting on Monday or arent going to stop no matter what? If youre going to say something out loud and put it out in there for all to hear, it makes it so much better if you believe it in your heart and force yourself to follow through all the while recognizing it wont always be easy.
So dont be afraid to tell people about your fitness and health goals, dreams and ideas, but dont be afraid of conquering them, either, no matter what obstacles may come your way.
Goal-setting is a huge component when it comes to reaching your fitness and health goals. You should set goals that are achievable, tell people about them, ask for motivation and support, execute them, then move onto the next goal. If you want to shout it from the rooftop and post it on social media, go for it, but make it stand for something.
This week, pick a specific goal in health and fitness that you have been wanting to do or saying you want to do for a long time. Tell someone important about it, then go for it.
There will be hard times and there will be setbacks, which is why making sure you tell the right people people who will always have your back is important. What is your goal this week? I would love to hear about those goals, so dont hesitate to send them to me, as well.
