Shirley Flowers: Start teaching Spanish in kindergarten

November 10, 2013

Can someone please explain to me why our young children are not all taught Spanish starting in kindergarten? They have special classes for Mexican and Hmong children but not for Caucasian children. Caucasian children have to wait until high school or college to take a class for another language. Yet almost any job in Merced requires that you be bilingual.

We have most all paperwork for city and state printed in two or three different languages. What is the reason; someone please explain. We need Caucasian children taught Spanish starting in kindergarten so that they have the same advantage that other children do.
