VFW bake sale

The ladies of the Atwater Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9946 will be selling cookies, cakes and hot chocolate at 5 p.m. Dec. 6 on the front steps of the Memorial Building. All proceeds will be used for veterans programs.

Poinsettias for sale

The Livingston Lions Club is selling poinsettias for $10 each. They will deliver on Dec. 6 and Dec. 13. Place your order by calling (209) 394-2212 or (209) 631-0935.

Tree lighting in Atwater

Lights of Love will hold their first annual Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony to benefit the Hinds Hospice Center for Grief & Healing at 6 p.m. Dec. 10 at the corner of Fifth Street and Broadway in Atwater. A reception will follow at the Atwater Women’s Club, 1201 Grove Road. The event is free. Lights are available for $10. Visit www.hindshospice.org for more information.

BBQ Pit Christmas lunch

The Merced Senior Social Club will hold a Christmas lunch catered by the BBQ Pit on Dec. 13, at 755 W. 15th St. the last day to buy tickets is Dec. 6. $5 for members. Please call (209) 383-6067 for more information.

New Year’s Eve party

Celebrate with the Twi’ Lighters from 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on New Year’s Eve at the Merced American Legion Hall, 939 W. Main St. Music to be played will include Latin, country, salsa and old-school. Flu immunization clinics

Livingston Medical Group and Hilmar Community Health Center are offering flu immunization clinics, walk-ins or appointments. For more information call (209) 394-7913, (209) 262-1816 or visit one of the clinics at 1140 Main St. in Livingston or 7970 Lander Ave., Suite A, in Hilmar.

Pancake breakfast

The 2013 McSwain Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for 7 a.m. to noon Dec. 8 at McSwain School, 922 N. Scott Road, in Merced. The pancake breakfast is a 50-year tradition in which students raise money to pay for outdoor education at Camp Calvin Crest. Their goal is to raise $26,200 to pay for 101 students to attend camp. The theme this year is a “White Winter Wonderland.” They will be serving pancakes, eggs and sausage. Santa will spread Christmas joy, and photos will be available. There will also be baked and homemade goods for sale, as well as a gift raffle. The fifth-grade class is also selling locally grown poinsettia plants for $12.

Art classes at church

Art classes are offered Thursday at Atwater Baptist Church from 9 a.m. to noon. Call (209) 358-2570 for more information.
