After attending the downtown Christmas Parade next Friday, stop by the Ted Falasco Arts Center, 1105 Fifth St., for the first Holiday Art Show and Market. The event will run from 5 to 9 p.m. that day, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 7.

The market will showcase nearly 20 booths featuring homemade items such as ceramics, creative lamps, soaps, wreaths, silk scarves, fused glass dishes and bowls, hand-forged hunting knives, aprons, bags, jewelry, glass windows, paintings and other handmade items.

“We are giving artists an opportunity to showcase some of their creations in Los Banos,” said Cyndi Roelofs, Arts Council vice president and organizer of the event.

Roelofs has been planning the market since late spring. She came up with the idea after seeing a neighbor’s creation of unique items using old car parts and wanted to offer a place to showcase similar types of works.

Roelofs said there is no cost to the artists to showcase their work. The event is part of a fundraiser for the Arts Council and its many projects and productions. “The artists will donate a percentage back to the Arts Council,” she said.

Both nights will feature live music by local musicians. On Friday, Caroline Sjariet Kalisz will play the piano, and on Saturday, Lacie Valentine Stevenson will perform. Councilman Tom Faria’s chorus will be performing as well as Los Broadway, who will perform late Saturday afternoon.

Food and beverages will be provided by Mrs. Lovett’s Bakery, which will offer items for sale. Community members will have the opportunity take photos with Santa Claus. Funds raised from photos with Santa will benefit the local community theater company Los Broadway, Roelofs said.

The money will help in producing different shows throughout the year, as well as Arts Council events.

The next production being performed by the Los Banos Arts Council and Los Broadway is J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit,” which will take place next spring.

The Holiday Art Show and Market is free to the community.
