Long Beach, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Doug McDermott led the charge with 21 points as the Creighton Bluejays went into Walter Pyramid and captured a 78-61 triumph over the Long Beach State 49ers.
McDermott shot 5-of-11 from the field and knocked down all nine of his free- throw attempts for Creighton (6-2). Ethan Wragge finished with 15 points on 5- of-11 from 3-point range, while Will Artino and Isaiah Zierden scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.
For LBSU (1-8), losers of eight in a row, A.J. Spencer netted 13 points, Mike Caffey had 11 points and Dan Jennings chipped in 10 points.
Creighton was on fire from 3-point range in the first half, drilling 10-of-17 from beyond the arc, as it carried a commanding 48-28 lead into intermission.
The Bluejays continued to have the hot hand at the start of the second half, as they opened up the stanza on an 11-4 run to further distance themselves.
Creighton's bench scored 37 points on the night, while LBSU's reserves put up only 15 points.
