Strands of shining lights mark the season as families look for Christmas trees Saturday (12-14-13) at Ellison’s Trees in the Walgreen’s parking lot at G Street and Olive Avenue. The trees come from Oregon, and the lot has been owned and operated for the last 20 years by Kevin Ellison, 53, a truck driver from Merced, according to his daughter Rakelle Ellison, 17, who was working at the lot Saturday. Rakelle said they expect to sell 2000 trees by the end of the season, and that there are about 500 left. She said the most popular tree is the noble fir, which costs between $30 and $75. While the lot could stay open as late as Christmas Eve, the Ellisons expect to close it on the 23rd.
