Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcus Colbert and Flavien Davis each scored 19 points as the Montana State Bobcats held off the Portland Pilots, 72-69, in non-conference action at the Chiles Center.
Colbert also added seven assists, six rebounds and three steals for Montana State (4-5). Terrell Brown put up 11 points while shooting 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.
For Portland (6-4), which snapped a three-game winning streak, Kevin Bailey led all scorers with 26 points but he also committed six turnovers. Ryan Nicholas tallied a true double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds for the hosts.
The tightly-contested first half ended with Portland leading, 32-30. The Pilots shot 42.4 percent from the field in the opening stanza, just a shade better than the Bobcats (.423).
After exchanging a few leads in the early part of the second half, Montana State took a 60-58 lead with 7:20 remaining on a Michael Dison jumper, and while its lead never extended past six points down the stretch, it also never gave up its advantage.
Montana State outscored Portland at the foul line, 20-10.
