Robber takes $1,636 from employee outside Atwater pizzeria

December 17, 2013

— A man robbed a fast-food restaurant employee early Tuesday and made off with more than $1,600 in cash, the Atwater Police Department reported.

Police said the victim, a male employee of Little Caesars Pizza at 300 Bellevue Road, was not injured.

According to police, the victim told them he was getting into his vehicle around 9:30 a.m. in a parking area behind Maria’s Taco Shop near the pizza kitchen to take a cash deposit from the store to the bank. He said he was approached by the robber, who had a large birthmark on the right side of his face and nose and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and tan or brown-colored pants, police said.

The police said the robber demanded the cash, which the victim carried in a black bag slung over his shoulder.

Authorities said the victim heard a sound that he believed may have been the racking action of a handgun, but he never saw a weapon.

The victim handed over the money and was ordered to pass his cellphone and car keys to the assailant, who then ordered the victim to get into the vehicle, Lt. Sam Joseph said in a prepared statement.

The man then locked the victim inside the vehicle, placed the cellphone and keys on top of the car and ran away, authorities said.

Police said the victim let himself out and called them.

The robber was last seen running south through a dirt field toward Alabama Street, authorities said.

Investigators said the robber escaped with about $1,636 in cash.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact the Atwater Police Department at (209) 357-6934.
