Snelling man, 85, suffers major injuries in crash

December 17, 2013

— An 85-year-old Snelling man suffered major injuries Tuesday when his vehicle rolled off the road and landed on its roof in a field, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The driver and only occupant, Jack Nelson, was flown to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with unspecified major injuries, Officer Jason Schoonhoven said.

No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported.

Nelson was heading north on Snelling Road about 4 p.m. in his black GMC Canyon, just south of Robinson Road.

The first emergency call came into CHP dispatch at 4:05 p.m., Schoonhoven said.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted onto the shoulder.

“The vehicle then traveled out of control and rolled onto its roof,” Schoonhoven said.

The vehicle landed upside down in the field about 100 feet from the road, the CHP said.

According to the CHP website, emergency responders struggled to get equipment into the field.
