Merced Arts Wrap for Dec. 20, 2013

Christmas in the Park this weekend

Christmas in the Park will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Satuday and Sunday in Merced’s Applegate Park. According to the event’s Facebook page, the park will be “transformed into a holiday fantasy with animated exhibits, glittering lights and a huge Community Giving Tree.” The event will include “animated snowmen, caroling mice, elf woodcrafters, animated nutcrackers and a Santa’s Den.” It is being organized by the Baby Victor Foundation, according to the posted announcement. FAME: Fashion and Art – the Merced Experience

FAME, previously known as Project Fishbowl, is scheduled to launch its first show Friday. According to the event’s Facebook page, FAME is “designed to bring together artists, local businesses, and members of the community for a night of entertainment, excitement and to experience the best Merced has to offer when it comes to art and fashion.” For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

Harriet to perform at The Partisan

Indie rock band Harriet from Los Angeles is scheduled to perform at The Partisan 9 p.m. Friday in downtown Merced. Also scheduled to perform is Awahnichi and Nillo Smeds. Tickets are $7. The Partisan is at 432 W. Main St. in downtown Merced. For more information, visit www.thepartisanmerced.com.

Christmas movies at the Merced Theatre

To celebrate Christmas, the Merced Theatre is showing several family friendly holiday movies. The film “It’s a Wonderful Life” is scheduled to be shown 7 p.m. Friday. In addition, “The Polar Express” is scheduled to show 2 p.m. Saturday and “Miracle on 34th Street” is scheduled to show 2 p.m Tuesday. Tickets are $5 for all ages. The Merced Theatre is at 301 W. Upcoming bands at the Star Club

The Star Club will feature Sound Remedy on Friday and Saturday, 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., no cover, age 21 and over only. On Dec. 31, the Star Club will feature the Johnny Randall Band, 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., age 21 and over only, $10 per couple, $7 single cover charge. The Star Club is at 1331 W. Main St. in downtown Merced.
