Charleston, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Willis Hall recorded a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead the College of Charleston Cougars to a 72-48 victory over The Citadel Bulldogs in a bout between the former Southern Conference rivals at McAlister Field House.
Anthony Stitt chipped in 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Charleston (6-7), which also received 11 points and eight boards from Adjehi Baru. Nori Johnson provided the Cougars with a spark off the bench with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from behind the 3-point line.
Ashton Moore led The Citadel (4-10) with 15 points on 6-of-19 efficiency from the field. Brian White tallied 11 points and eight rebounds in the Bulldogs' second-straight loss.
The Citadel shot just 29.4 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes of action, but managed to stay within striking distance by only turning the ball over twice. The Cougars took a 34-27 lead into halftime after they converted 10-of-14 attempts at the free-throw line in the first half.
Charleston outscored the hosts, 15-3, from beyond the arc in the second half to pull away. The Bulldogs committed nine turnovers after the intermission.
The Cougars enjoyed a 54-42 edge in the rebounding battle. Charleston is in its first season as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. It won both of its meetings against The Citadel in 2012-13 and now owns a 52-39 all-time series lead.
