Austin, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Holmes poured in 15 points and Cameron Ridley added 14, as Texas used a first-half surge to dispatch Rice, 66-44, on Monday.
Connor Lammert contributed 10 with six rebounds for the Longhorns (11-2), who shook off a loss against Michigan State.
Sean Obi totaled 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Owls (5-7), while Keith Washington and Nizar Kapic added seven points apiece in defeat.
Rice had won two in a row.
Ahead 16-13 with 8:34 remaining in the first half, Texas assumed control for good with a 19-4 run to intermission. Holmes kicked off the surge with a layup, Martez Walker contributed a three-pointer and Lammert recorded six points in the burst, including his slam which put the hosts up 35-17.
Texas took a 37-19 edge to halftime on another Lammert bucket.
Walker connected again from long distance with 4 1/2 minutes played in the second half and the Longhorns went up 47-22.
That advantage reached a game-high 26 points, at 51-25, with almost eight minutes played thanks to a Holmes jumper.
Drew Bender's shot from long range pulled the Owls within 58-42, but Texas scored the next eight and coasted to the buzzer.
