Recap: Creighton vs. Marquette

Omaha, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - Doug McDermott recorded 19 points and seven rebounds to lead Creighton to a 67-49 victory over Marquette in the Bluejays' first-ever game as a Big East member.

Creighton (11-2, 1-0 Big East) knocked down 13 shots from 3-point range and played strong defense in getting off to a strong start in its new league. The Bluejays held the Golden Eagles to a 35.8 percent field goal percentage while forcing 15 turnovers that were converted into 20 points.

Jahenns Manigat and Ethan Wragge each made four attempts from beyond the arc and tallied 16 and 12 points, respectively, in Creighton's seventh straight win overall.

Jamil Wilson and Chris Otule both finished with 10 points for Marquette (8-6, 0-1), which was dealt a fourth loss in seven games following a 5-2 start.

The Bluejays led from start-to-finish, opening the contest with an 18-6 run and taking a 37-24 advantage into halftime behind 10 points from McDermott and Manigat.

Marquette never got its deficit under double digits after the break, with Creighton's lead swelling to 20 points when McDermott sank two free throws to increase the margin to 63-43 with 6:12 remaining.
