Hattiesburg, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Michael Craig posted a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds as the Southern Miss Golden Eagles topped the Drexel Dragons, 66-49, in a non-conference duel at Reed Green Coliseum.
Aaron Brown added 11 points and Jerrold Brooks and Jeremiah Eason each tallied 10 for Southern Miss (13-2), which has won four straight.
Tavon Allen finished with a game-high 15 points for Drexel (8-5), which has lost three of its last four. Chris Fouch tacked on 13 points but knocked down just 5-of-13 shots from the floor and had four turnovers.
In the first half the Golden Eagles struggled, connecting on just 37 percent of their shots from the floor. Drexel shot a superior 44 percent, but was outscored, 10-2, from the free-throw line to account for a 31-28 deficit at the break.
Southern Miss was even worse after intermission, shooting at a 33.3 percent rate. However, the Golden Eagles also held the Dragons to seven field goals and went 14-of-20 from the free-throw line to pull away for the victory.
The Golden Eagles dominated inside, outscoring Drexel, 28-12, in the paint while holding a 52-24 advantage on the glass.
