ATWATER — Community blood drives
Community blood drives are scheduled in Merced: from 10 to 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at 678 W. 18th St.; 8:30 to 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Human Services Department, 2115 Wardrobe Road; noon to 4:30 p.m. Monday at Main Place Cinema, 403 Main St.; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Battle of the Badge, 439 W. 15th St.
Last Hope open adoption
Last Hope Cat Kingdom will have an open house and adoption from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The group must reduce the number of animals it has, so it will offer lower fees for dogs and cats. There will be door prizes as well. Last Hope is at 6660 Bailey Ave.
Court interpreter course
The noncredit Court Interpreter and Administrative Hearings course will begin Saturday. The class is designed to assist students pass the California and federal exams to become a certified court interpreter. This course will also help improve skills for legal and medical personnel who interpret for clients and patients as part of their employment. Call the Continuing Education Program at (209) 381-6540, to preregister, as seating is limited. Classes are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through May 17 at Merced Tri-College Center, Building 5.
Stone Ridge new student information night
Stone Ridge Christian High School will hold a New Parent and Student Information Night in Room 7 at the school at 7 p.m. Jan. 22. This event is for all seventh- or eighth-grade students and their parents to hear information about SRCHS. The school is at 500 Buena Vista Drive.
Household hazardous waste event
The Merced County Regional Waste Management Authority will have another quarterly household hazardous waste event at the Highway 59 landfill on Saturday for residents and conditionally exempt small-quantity generators. Participants must call the service provider, Advanced Chemical Transport before bringing out any items. To schedule an approximate drop-off appointment, call ACT at (209) 722-4228. Free Yosemite admission
Yosemite National Park will offer free admission Jan. 20 in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Fees for camping, lodging or activities inside the park still must be paid.
Genealogical Society meeting
Learn how to trace your roots at Merced County Genealogical Society’s annual program for beginners. Get started with a free packet of materials, forms and tips. The society will meet in the Gracey Room of Merced County Library, 2100 O St., at noon Jan. 25. The meeting is open to all.
